On May 26, 2023, the Department explained that more time is needed due to the significant number of public comments received (more than 240,000) regarding the proposed changes to the Title IX regulations. The Department announced it anticipates releasing the final Title IX athletics regulations in October 2023. We previously reported on those proposed regulations here.
Because release of the final amended Title IX regulations has been postposed, school districts must continue to follow the current Title IX regulations, which went into effect in August 2020.
