To help our associates be successful at the firm, each associate is assigned to a partner who closely monitors the associate’s progress. Through this mentoring program, associates receive feedback on their performance on a project-by-project basis and through an annual comprehensive written evaluation. Our firm offers first-year associates the opportunity to receive assignments in each of the firm’s practice areas. Associates rotate through each of the firm’s practice areas and attend each practice group’s meetings during the respective rotating cycle. First-year associates are allowed to complete projects in the other practice group areas during rotation. As associates express a preference in particular areas of law, the firm is sensitive to those preferences and attempts to develop an associate’s expertise in those areas of interest.

"HLERK lawyers really care about their clients and the issues they face every day. They know that the clients are real people facing real issues because they speak to them frequently, visit their schools and offices, and maintain a warm and genuine rapport with them. That rapport is felt in the HLERK offices as well. Staff members really know and care about each other and their lives outside of the firm. The atmosphere of mutual respect produces high quality work. HLERK is a great place to practice law."− Sonja Trainor, former associate
