The Illinois Supreme Court granted the government’s petition for a speedy appeal.

The Court said that the government must file its initial arguments by January 12, 2015. The unions, associations, and employees acting as plaintiffs in the case must respond by February 27, 2015. A decision is expected by early summer.

A ruling by the Illinois Supreme Court will likely clear up ambiguities related to pension reform. New legislation is unlikely until after the Supreme Court ruling.
