As previously reported in The Extra Mile, the Appellate Court for the Seventh Circuit recently found in favor of a transgender student and his right to use school restrooms consistent with his gender identity. On August 25, 2017, Kenosha Unified School District filed a petition for certiorari, asking the United States Supreme Court to review the appellate court’s decision. The Kenosha Unified School District argued, in part, that this case represents a needed opportunity for the Supreme Court to clarify the responsibilities of school districts relative to transgender students.

HLERK will continue to follow this case. For your inquiries related to transgender students, please contact Michelle Todd or Kaitlin Atlas.
